DRINKS • FOOD • PLANTS
Crooked Ladle Catering and Everything Nice have partnered on a collaborative initiative to transform the historic Battell Block storefront, 51 Main, into a mixed-use space with offerings focused on community enrichment, food, creativity, and houseplants. The re-imagined space features Everything Nice retail, design & plantscape throughout both floors, dine-in dinner service & bar by Crooked Ladle, curated programming, and event spaces, which all help support Vermont’s Giving Fridge in various ways.

Crooked Ladle, founded by Jenny & Loren Urban, manages the commercial kitchen at 51 Main, continuing to serve their robust client roster for off-site events, as well offering dine-in dinner service 4 nights a week. Crooked Ladle serves as the in-house caterer for private events in our multi-level event space and is part of the Giving Fridge’s rotating roster of restaurants and chefs preparing nutritious meals for Addison County families and individuals experiencing health & financial hardship.

Everything Nice, a houseplant and home decor shop founded by Bethanie Farrell, serves as the home of, and a funding source for, Giving Fridge, a 501(c)3 non-profit working to make healthy local prepared meals accessible to all, and continues to support their work through retail, programming, and events. In addition to our brick & mortar shop at 51 Main, Everything Nice offers plantscaping & design services to business and residential clientele. Since its inception in December 2020, in collaboration with local grant-makers, shop customers, donors, Localvore, and the innovative Vermont Everyone Eats program, Giving Fridge has reinvested more than $350,000 back into the local economy, providing steady income to local restaurants, farms, and food producers while hiring and training locals to assist with meal packing, delivery, and distribution. To date, families and individuals experiencing health and financial hardship throughout Addison County have received more than 35,000 healthy, restaurant-prepared meals, along with compassionate connections to relevant support services.

Crooked Ladle Catering started as a food truck in 2019 in collaboration with Bobcat Cafe & Brewery in Bristol, and has grown into a standalone comprehensive caterer that serves Addison County and beyond. Having been in the local restaurant industry for the past 15 years, owners Loren and Jennifer Urban have developed a strong network of local farms and food producers. Those relationships are the basis of Crooked Ladle’s fresh, unique menus that bring people together over the rich flavors of Vermont. Crooked Ladle most recently organized and sponsored a free music event in Bristol during the summer, which brought over 200 people together each Monday to eat, dance, and play.
Come visit us at 51 Main and see all that we have to offer!
